CNC Laser Cutting Supervisor

Major Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business in the Nottingham area for an experienced CNC Laser Cutting Supervisor.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking company with significant investment in industry-leading technology, including Bystronic and BLM laser cutting systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the laser cutting department, ensuring production targets, quality standards and health and safety requirements are consistently achieved.

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Shift: 6:00am – 2:00pm
Salary: £17 per hour + overtime allowances

Machinery

The successful candidate will oversee production across:

• Four Flatbed Laser Cutting machines, including a 6m laser with Antil Warehouse System

• Two Tube Laser Cutting machines, processing material up to 152mm diameter

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily operation of the laser cutting department

• Lead, motivate and support a team of laser operators to achieve production targets

• Allocate workloads and monitor production schedules to maximise efficiency

• Ensure all work is completed safely, accurately and to customer specifications

• Carry out first-off inspections and approve production before full manufacture

• Monitor quality standards and ensure all completed work meets company requirements

• Complete and verify production documentation, including job cards and drawing checks

• Ensure materials are selected, handled and stored correctly to prevent damage

• Verify quantities and ensure all completed parts are correctly labelled with GIN numbers

• Support operators with machine set-up, troubleshooting and process improvements

• Monitor machine performance and report maintenance requirements where necessary

• Work closely with Production, Planning and Quality departments to ensure customer deadlines are achieved

• Train, mentor and develop new and existing team members

• Promote Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles throughout the department

• Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety procedures and company policies

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience supervising or leading a laser cutting or sheet metal manufacturing team

• Strong experience operating CNC laser cutting machinery, ideally Bystronic, BLM or similar

• Excellent understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes

• Strong quality focus with exceptional attention to detail

• Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads

• Excellent communication and leadership skills

• Experience working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles would be advantageous

• A proactive approach to continuous improvement and problem solving
